
President Bola Tinubu has called on the Africa Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) to prioritise the establishment of a combined maritime task force to enhance security in the Gulf of Guinea. Tinubu said this at the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The President expressed Nigeria’s readiness to host the task force’s headquarters in Lagos, Mr Bayo Onanuga, his spokesman, said in a statement. Tinubu conveyed Nigeria’s position as the AU considered the report on the AUPSC, focusing on peace and security in Africa, and the biennial report on the implementation of the Master Roadmap of Practical Steps to Silence the Guns in Africa (2023-2024) The President’s statement was delivered at the meeting on his behalf by Amb. The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Ibaka in Mbo Local In a decisive move to combat rising sea piracy and armed robbery in Rivers State’s waterways, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed six armoured gunboats to the state’s marine police unit. The intervention follows multiple complaints from Bonny residents and

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos of the Nigerian Navy has deactivated four illegal refining sites in Warri South-West Local Government in Delta. Navy Capt. Ikenna Okoloagu, the Commanding Officer of the FOB, Escravos disclosed this to newsmen in Warri. Okoloagu said that the illegal refining sites were deactivated at Obodo in Omadinho Community. He said that the sites were laden with about 2,500 litres of stolen crude and 2,200 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO). Okoloagu added that the
products were contained in five ovens, 11 dug out pits and 25 polythene sacks. He said that successful operation was in line with the ongoing Operation DELTA SANITY II, adding that it was based on credible information. “The Nigerian Navy’s fight against crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other acts of economic sabotage yielded result again.
