Navy To Incorporate Army, Air Force In Simulation Amphibious Exercise

The flag officer commanding (FOC) Naval Doctrine Command, Shehu Gombe, said this during the 2024 Simulation of Amphibious Operation held at Tarkwa Bay, Lagos. Mr Gombe said the exercise was a partnership between the French Navy and the Nigerian Navy, simulating a hostage taking situation and recovering them. “We had the French Navy assets, both vehicles and their Special Boat Service (SBS) Army, with NN ships, SBS, and helicopters partaking in the exercise. “The exercise scenario ran very well, and we were able to recover the hostages and also able to carry out medical evacuation and amphibious landing and it was successful,” he said.

15 Warships, Special Forces Deployed For Naval Chief’s Sea Inspection

A total of 8.1 million barrels of stolen crude oil, and 86,500 MT of illegally refined AGO were recovered by operatives of the Nigerian Navy during various operations in the last four years. Also, a total of 392 suspected oil thieves were arrested and 120 Barges and deactivated 1,528 illegal refining sites were destroyed within the period under review. The Chief of Navy Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, revealed the figures in Abuja while briefing journalists on the activities of the service. Ogalla who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans Rear Adm. Olusegun Ferreira said troops also arrested 181 speedboats,1,453 wooden boats laden with stolen products,118 vehicles and destroyed 8,790 storage tanks.

Naval Dockyard to Include Civilians In 2025 Admiral Superintendent Sports Competition

Rear Adm. Bolaji Orederu, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard Ltd., says he will include youths of Victoria Island and Ikoyi axis in the next Admiral Superintendent Sports Competition. Orederu made the pronouncement at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Admiral Superintendent Sports Competition holding at the Sports Complex, Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos, from Dec.10 to Dec.18. The competition featured eight events which include Basketball, Volleyball, Five-Aside Football, Badminton, Chess, Ludo, Table Tennis and Snooker. Also, the teams competing include Naval Dockyard Limited, Western Naval Command, Naval Doctrine Command and Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Nigerian Airforce Logistic Command and Dodan Barracks.

8th Gulf of Guinea Maritime Security Symposium Concludes in Abuja

The 8th Symposium of the Heads of Navies and Coastguards in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) concluded on November 28, 2024, in Abuja, with a renewed commitment to strengthen maritime security and sustainable development in the region. Organised by the Nigerian Navy in collaboration with the European Union (EU) and the French Navy, the event brought together approximately 200 participants, including senior naval officials, regional institutions, and international partners. Themed “Maritime Security and Sustainable Development in the Gulf of Guinea”, the two-day conference focused on key issues affecting the region’s maritime domain, including piracy, illicit trafficking, and resource exploitation.

Rivers to Donate Gunboats to Navy in Fight Against Oil Theft

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced that the state will donate six gunboats to the Nigerian Navy to bolster patrol efforts and combat rampant oil theft in the region. This move is part of a broader initiative to tackle the theft of crude oil from pipelines and wells, which has severely undermined Nigeria’s oil industry, damaged government revenues, and stifled exports. Speaking to reporters in Port Harcourt, Fubara highlighted the collaborative efforts between state and federal governments that have contributed to Nigeria’s recent increase in oil production, which now stands at 1.8 million barrels per day.
