JTF Impounds Vessel Laden With 300,000 Litres Of Illegally Refined Diesel In Rivers

The joint military taskforce, “Operation Delta Safe” (OPDS) impounded a vessel, MV Mother Mary I, laden with 300,000 litres of illegally refined diesel. OPDS impounded the vessel at the Federal Ocean Terminal in Onne, Eleme Council Area of Rivers and arrested its two

crew members on Bonny River. Component Commander at the OPDS, Commodore John Siyanbade, told newsmen at Onne near Port Harcourt on Thursday that the petroleum product was stored in black giant plastic tanks.He said before the Sunday incident, OPDS

had impounded two vessels, MV Cecilia and MV Ufuoma, which were being used for illegal activities.

Navy Halts Theft Of Petrol At NNPCL’s Vandalised Pipeline In Lagos

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has discovered and halted the siphoning of petrol from one of NNPCL’s pipelines at Atlas Cove, Lagos. Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga said this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Sub.-Lt. Happiness Collins. He said the activities of the fuel thieves were halted. Oguntuga said

the navy halted the theft in collaboration with troops of “Operation AWATSE’’. “The thieves connected hoses and suction pumps to vandalised parts of the pipeline to steal petrol. After halting their activities, the NNPCL was alerted and repairs on the vandalised parts of the

pipeline have gone underway.

First Container Freight Train Sets Off From Apapa

The first container freight train of the Lagos-Ibadan railway has taken off from the Apapa port in Lagos. According to a statement on China Civil Engineering Construction Company’s website, the container carried 40-foot containers to Ibadan. The statement added that “The Nigerian Railway Corporation plans to operate one pair of container trains daily and gradually increase the number of trains as the demand grows, improving the railway transportation system behind Lagos Port” Former President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2021 had inaugurated the 157-kilometre rail for passenger services and to ease cargo evacuation from Apapa Port, which has a total of five terminals and eight jetties.

Navy Arrests Eight Stowaways in Lagos

Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft in Lagos State has arrested eight stowaways who boarded a vessel heading to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire capital. This was revealed in a navy release by Sub-Lieutenant HA Collins, Base Information Officer, stating that the illegal migrants were arrested in Lagos. According to the navy authorities, it was confirmed that the military had

handed over the arrested migrants to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and prosecution. “In a remarkable display of sustained maritime security, the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT’s patrol team has stalled plans of some individuals from

embarking on illegal voyage, onboard a container vessel NATAL heading to Abidjan.

NPA Launches $1.1bn Port Rehabilitation Plan for Enhanced Trade Competitiveness

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said it is embarking on a significant $1.1 billion port

rehabilitation plan, aimed at ensuring a strong commitment to fortify Nigeria’s trade competitiveness. Speaking during a panel session during the 43rd PMAWCA (Port Management Association of West and Central Africa) conference held in Lagos, Mohammed

Bello Koko, the Managing Director of NPA, stated that with almost every port in Nigeria requiring rehabilitation, the NPA is initiating a substantial overhaul, starting with the TinCan and Apapa ports in Lagos. He stated that the objective of the NPA’s plan is to enhance the

physical infrastructure of these ports to accommodate vessels of all sizes and increase the draft at the quay side, with the aim of achieving draft depths of up to 14meters expressing that the initiative will render Nigerian ports more competitive on a global scale.
